Home Automation Using OpenHab Server and Google Assistant WIZnet Makers

For this, you’ll need a complete duplicate set of items (basically, a storage item for every item you’re using in the scene). We’ll use rules to copy the setpoints to/from the storage items. The three methods vary in flexibility (from simple set of on/off commands, to a fully dynamic and customizable scene with setpoint storage), but increase in complexity . Each method should satisfy a need depending on the level of functionality you require. Most likely, either the tags are incorrectly typed/spaced, or you have tags that aren’t supported yet . Indicates if the device can only be queried for state information and cannot be controlled.

OpenHAB is a Java-based open-source home automation platform that integrates and combines a vast range of different smart home systems and technologies into one single solution. On top of the unified abstraction layer all connected devices are available for the overarching automation rule engines and different user interfaces. To add items to the scene, or add new scenes, follow the commented steps in the code above. It should be possible to make the store rules generic, as well - but I couldn’t find an easy way to group the item/state values for each scene. The LightingScenes group is not required, but you can add the whole group to your main sitemap, for example, and make all scenes available from that screen. The “Switchable” tag allows you to use the switch in a Google Home routine to select the scene.

Sensors that can only report open state should set this field to true. Google Assistant is Google’s virtual personal assistant and uses Actions on Google as the platform for "Actions" to extend the functionality of the Google Assistant. Users engage Google Assistant in conversation to get things done, like controlling their devices and things at home. Initially a bulb is connected with w7500, then this board is connected to w750sr through UART.

Note that the selection functionality is currently not supported. Anyway once all your tags are in place, press control x then y and enter to save. @MARZIMA and others who contributed to the development of this action, thank you all once again for adding this killer functionality to openHAB!

Spracherkennung mit und ohne Cloud

I’ve divided the post into three sections, one for each method. Ah, was it the hue emulation add on, or the binding? I didn’t seem to need to remove either of those, but then I never fully configured/used my Hue emulation add on . Set up the voice-activated speaker or Android phone (version 6+) with your Google account.

In this post , I will show you 3 ways to set up scenes in openHAB and connect them with Google Home/Assistant for voice control. I connected my local openhab with myopenhab cloud and can successfully use the habdroid app. Make sure to assign your devices to rooms to properly use voice commands.

Connect

This configuration is still possible, but you need to make some permissions changes. You will now be able to see your previously configured items and devices. Lately I have also been posting things that only a true smart home enthusiast would appreciate. This is a sample of how one could control OpenHAB via Google Home voice commands. I have a question, it seems to me that every time I must reboot the openhab server, I have to restore from scratch the wanted scene since there is no persistence of the scene status. You never have to touch the rules beyond adding the trigger which is nice and it saves having a lot of rules for each and every scene.

To Google Assistent you will need to add metadata in the ga namespace.

Setup your Database

Musk says those carriers were “gaming the system” by sending bogus texts to inflate numbers and make money off Twitter. Hopefully, the company will work out a way to unblock genuine users and only remove individual offenders. Return back to the Google Home app and try to add the OpenHAB service again. You should now be able to see open hab and add it successfully.

Keep in mind, the storage value items need to be added to your persistence, if you want to maintain the scene settings through a power cycle. Then I added openhab as a “device” in google home app on my smartphone, as described in your video. Follow the same process above to setup the function and action, using your account. By default, when you go to add OpenHAB to the Google Home app using your account, your open hab service will NOT be available to select. The openHAB should be updated with UUID secret and UUID password and also with your mailID. Install openhab from google store on your android.

# Speaker (volume control only)

W750sr is connected to internet using ethernet. MQTT protocol is used for subscribing the status of light from oopenhab and accordingly the light is switched ON/OFF. Similarly other devices can be connected and controlled. I have used a relay in interfacing a bulb because this is a normal lightbulb and would only with AC current.

The Google Home supports the following tags. In another thread you told me that support for German language will follow, but I was very surprised to see in my google home app that openhab is listed as an available plugin. When set to true, this indicates that the device must either be fully open or fully closed (that is, it does not support values between 0% and 100%). An example of such a device may be a valve. You can also set up a Thermostat for using it as a temperature sensor.

The basic process is to expose the items you want to have control over to Google Home by adding tags in the .items configuration file. The specific types/places for the tags are shown in the video. The next step is to link the openHAB action within the Google Home app.

Again, make sure to configure your openHAB items accordingly to allow the discovery and control of your appliances. As I use various devices with different assistants on them at home, I also looked at the available on- and offline integrations which I want to introduce in this post. The online integration of these assistants via the openHAB Cloud Connector is much simpler in my opinion but I’ll also talk about the offline-only integration. To see more entries scroll to the left or the right.

With the Action you can voice control your openHAB items and it supports lights, plugs, switches, thermostats and many more. The openHAB Action comes with multiple language support like English, German or French language. It will bring up a list smart devices you can add to the google home, scroll down and press on openhab.
